Meet the Jury – Muscat Municipality Design Competition 2025

We are proud to present the distinguished jury panel of the Muscat Municipality Design Competition 2025, composed of internationally acclaimed architects, urbanists, and experts in sustainable development and cultural heritage.

Under the patronage of H.E. Ahmed Al Humaidi, President of Muscat Municipality, this exceptional panel will evaluate the five finalist proposals for a new civic landmark in Muscat—a project that blends sustainability, contemporary design, and Omani identity.

Mr. Don Murphy

Don Murphy is an Irish-born architect and the co-founder of VMX Architects, an internationally recognized firm based in Amsterdam.

Dr. Aliya Al-Hashim

College of Engineering – Civil & Architectural Department-Sultan Qaboos University.

Dr. Chaham Rajab Alalouch

College of Engineering – Civil & Architectural Department-Sultan Qaboos University.

Dr. Haitham Al Abri

An architect and architectural researcher specializing in the traditional built environment of Oman.

Eng. Elham Al-Hadhrami

Elham Al-Hadhrami is an accomplished architectural engineer and sustainable developer with over 14 years of experience at Muscat Municipality. Currently serving as the Director of the Urban Planning Development Department.

Eng. Mohammed Al Rashdi

Eng. Mohammed Al Rashdi was educated as an architectural engineer, currently serving as the Assistant Director General of the General Directorate of Technical Affairs at Muscat Municipality.

Fiorenza Matteoni

Fiorenza Matteoni is an accomplished Italian architect and interior designer with over
15 years of international experience, currently serving as Head of the Architecture
Department & Masterplan at F&M Middle East Engineering.

With their combined local insights and global design sensibilities, this jury reflects the competition’s mission to shape a bold and inclusive future for Muscat’s urban landscape.
